Our Mission

To create possibilities for students and programs in the Performing Arts Department of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School that are otherwise unbudgeted. Our mission is particularly important to these programs under the current economic conditions.

Our Organization
BravEncore is a not-for-profit, 501(c) 3 support group, established in 2006 to fund opportunities within as well as outside the school's curriculum. We are an all-volunteer group comprised of students, parents, friends and faculty. We are active throughout the year, with emphasis on fund raising in the fall and spring. Our primary sources of revenue are program ad sales, an annual “Evening of the Arts” featuring a synopsis-presentation of the school’s dramatic work, as well as other opportunistic events.

Our Achievements
In our short existence, we have enabled:

  • The return of MVRHS to the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild competition in 2007 following a 25-year hiatus. More than 100 schools compete each spring. In our first year, through three rounds of elimination, we advanced to the finals with an original drama titled “Boxes.” We have funded the significant production and travel entailed in this competition for the past three years.
  • The creation and installation of a Black Box Theater in the classroom to present experimental work in a more intimate theatrical setting. This theatrical context was made possible in large part through the generosity of the Farm Neck Fund.
  • Currently, we are "all hands on deck" to fund participation in the 2010 Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. This festival is the oldest and largest arts festival in the world. Our performers will join 42 other school groups selected out of more than 2,500 nominated to receive this prestigious recognition. Our performers earned this recognition as part of decades of theatrical excellence in our school, and more recently, from producing and performing three original works for the State's Drama Guild competition. Our group had to be nominated first by an elite council of university level drama educators, and then rise through a rigorous process of comparison to other nominated school groups, many with larger, well-funded programs.
